Kampong Chhnang provincial police yesterday arrested two men and seized nearly half a kilogram of crystal meth and nearly 1,000 litres of liquid ketamine from them in the province.
Major General Luch, provincial police chief, identified them as Khieu Siv, 25, and Sok Mab, 27, both jobless and living in Boribo district.
He said that they were arrested at about 10am yesterday after a team, comprising provincial anti-drug trafficking police and police from the Interior Ministry, led by the provincial court prosecutor raided their rental home in Phsar commune.
“They were traffickers who transported drugs from the borders of Thailand and Laos to stock in their rental house in order to distribute them to users in province,” Maj Gen Vannara said. “They were arrested red-handed after our police raided their rental house.”
He said that after their arrests, police seized three packages of crystal meth weighing 364.69 grams, 1,250 bottles of liquid ketamine weighing nearly 1,000 litres, an SUV, a motorbike and other drug paraphernalia from the suspects.
Maj Gen Vannara said Mr Siv and Mr Mab are accused of drug trafficking and face life in prison if convicted.
He added that both are still being questioned by police and will be sent to the provincial court today.
In another case, Stung Treng Provincial Court yesterday charged a farmer with trafficking more than one kilo of crystal meth in the province.
Major Bun Sam-Ol, provincial anti-drug trafficking department deputy chief, identified the accused as Rath Seanghun, 50, living in Thalaborivath district.
He said Mr Seanghun is charged with drug trafficking and faces life in jail if convicted. He is now in prison pending trial.
Maj Sam-Ol said that the accused was arrested at about 12.30 pm on Tuesday at the Limi Moul Metr Guesthouse in Stung Treng City.
“He was arrested after he sold the drugs to an undercover police officer,” he said. “After his arrest we seized a big package of crystal meth weighing 1,005.25 grams from him.”
