Senior Vietnamese official’s visit to further boost ties

A senior Vietnamese official today met with National Assembly president Heng Samrin in a bid to further strengthen the countries’ ties.

Keo Piseth, cabinet chief for Mr Samrin, said that Tran Cam Tu, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and chairman of the Inspection commission met with Mr Samrin at the National Assembly this morning where they discussed ties between the two nations.

Mr Piseth said that the meeting was intended to further boost relationship since both countries pledged to continue cooperation.

“Mr Tran Cam said that although the world’s situation has changed, the bilateral relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam remains unchanged and continue to strengthen the traditional friendship,” Mr Piseth said.

Mr Samrin said that for the past 40 years, Cambodia has struggled to make a reform and develop the country to reach what it is today.

“Samdech [Mr Samrin] thanked the Vietnamese government, its people and its volunteer soldiers who died in battlefields to liberate Cambodian people from Pol Pot’s genocidal regime,” Mr Piseth said.
