Kampong Cham provincial police on Saturday arrested a timber tycoon following a report from a girl that he assaulted and verbally abused her.
Brigadier General Heng Vuthy, provincial deputy police chief, yesterday identified the suspect as Von Bunthai and said he was arrested after the victim complained that he assaulted her in a karaoke club room in Kampong Cham city’s Veal Vong commune on Saturday night.
“The victim said that he pulled her hair and hit her head after verbally abusing her,” he said. “However, we did not see any injuries on her.”
Brig Gen Vuthy added that the victim claimed she had told the tycoon not to treat any other woman the same way.
“I sent him to the provincial court this afternoon, so it depends on the court to decide on the case,” he said.
Brig Gen Vuthy added that the court is still questioning Mr Bunthai and has not charged him yet.
Major General Em Kosal, provincial police chief, declined to comment.
Huot Vuthy, provincial court prosecutor, could not be reached for comment.
