Given a praise by Oprah Winfrey, “The Power of Now” is recommended for you if you want to change your perspective about the world and the way you take care of your psychological well-being.
Starting from the awareness that you are not your mind, the book will tell you how your mind is a powerful instrument if properly used, but could also be destructive if you cannot put it under your control.
It is good to learn that balance is important to keep your life healthy, which means you have to accept that in life there are always ups and downs, and you cannot always have good without bad.
There are other interesting aspects of life, which the author, Eckhart Tolle, raises to discuss in the book such as the reason why some people love to engage in dangerous activities such as mountain climbing, car racing, scuba diving, etc. This is because those activities give them the scene of “now”, which frees them from time, problems, thinking and burden of the personality.
The author also stresses that focusing on the present can be dreadful sometimes, especially when you are having problems in your life. However, the author still believes that focusing on the present has good impacts since most of the time, things will get better in the future, and they often do, if you choose the right attitude in the present.
It is energy consuming to recall events from the past, which did not go the way you are expected them to go the way you want them to. If you are still rejecting what happened, you are wasting your energy on what cannot be changed so why not the present, where and when you have the power to change the future?
We should be aware that we are living with problems every day. There is a difference between complaining about the problems and speaking about the problems. When you complain, you are the problem pointer; however, if you speak out, you are the solution finder.
After you finish this book, you will definitely find yourself more enlightened as you learn to position your mentality at the right place amidst the storm of problems and complexity of the modern world.
