Police in Banteay Meanchey province arrested one Thai man and seven Indonesian nationals suspected of operating an illegal gambling den in Poipet city.

Major Sok Bora, deputy chief of Poipet police, said today that the eight were arrested at about 10am after police raided their apartment in the city’s Poipet commune.

Maj Bora said the raid followed a period of investigation after police grew suspicious of the group as they only went out of their apartment at night.

He added that police collaborated with a court prosecutor in order to work on the case.

“They were arrested after our forces raided their apartment,” Maj Bora said. “They were arrested with actual evidence that they were running the games online.”

“After arresting them, police seized computers, mobile phones and other materials,” he added. “They were also tested for drugs and we found that some of them tested positive.”
