It was a star-studded affair at NABA Theatre @ Naga2 on the eve of December 31 as various entertainers graced the stage leading up to midnight. From dancing, singing to live music – there was something for everyone on that magical night.
Hosted by TV presenter Yim Nara and actress Kong Vongyaty, Phnom Penh’s first 3D video mapping theatre was filled to the brim with some 2,000 revellers from all walks of life, along with their loved ones, to usher in 2019 at NagaWorld’s New Year Countdown.
The sensational line-up was headlined by Cambodia’s beloved Preap Sovath who wowed the crowd with three of his hit songs “I Am Khmer’, ‘Countryside Chicken and Fresh Vegetables’ and ‘Let’s Dance’, just moments before the clock struck midnight.
The crowd was also sent into a frenzy when fellow Cambodian superstar Aok Sokunkanha emerged onstage in a glitzy gold number, before transforming into the dancing and singing powerhouse that she is known as.
When fast-rising star Jamie (Tey) belted out her rendition of Jessie J’s Price Tag, the revellers waved their hands in the air as bubbles fall down from the theatre’s state-of-the-art facilities, much to the latter’s delight.
The entertainment complex was transformed into the ‘Times Square of Phnom Penh’ when the indoor show was broadcasted live on the massive LED screens covering the towers, where thousands more city folks in the vicinity of NagaWorld were able to join in on the fun. A video capturing the whole event is now available on NagaWorld’s Facebook.
The night was kicked off by the finalists of 2018 Miss Cambodia with a special fashion show, accompanied by beautiful tunes played by saxophonist Olha. Dazzling 360° projections of festive-themed illumination complemented the catwalk as the ladies strut their stuff in both modern and traditional outfits.
The merriment continued with an energetic performance by dance group K-Boyz to a song by South Korean artist Rain entitled “30Sexy”, followed by NagaWorld’s very own group of entertainers who showcased their dancing skills with a captivating choreography dubbed “Black & White” that combined various kinds of dance style such as samba, hip hop and contemporary.
The party atmosphere reigned supreme until it reached crescendo at midnight with all the performers gathering onstage to celebrate a thrilling countdown, marked with stage pyrotechnics, digital fireworks display, colorful confetti and the roaring hoorahs of the crowd.
Cheers of “Happy New Year” could be heard all across the theatre as the crowd exchanged hugs and smiles with each other.
While the night ended with a bang, the celebration of live performance never stops at NagaWorld. NABA Theatre @ Naga2 will be hosting a dance musical entitled ‘LOVE’ from February 2 to March 3. Free-for-all and family-friendly, the show starts from 8pm on Thursdays to Sundays.
