The ruling Cambodian People’s Party today said that it is committed to strengthen multi-party democracy and maintain peace.

Speaking during the first-day party congress in Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich Centre, CPP honorary president Heng Samrin said that the CPP was strengthening a multi-party democracy through the formation of Supreme Consultative Council.

“We are honestly implementing a multiple-party democracy by strengthening the democratic process in compliance with Cambodia’s situation such as the creation of Supreme Consultative Council comprised of registered political parties,” Mr Samrin said.

“Our party has upheld the principle of multi-party democracy which is stipulated in Cambodia’s constitution and laws,” he said.

He said that CPP congress will be approving a report of general situations and party’s work in 2018 and goal for 2019.

“This congress will vote to choose more members,” Mr Samrin said.
