Immigration police this morning deported more than 200 Chinese nationals who were caught operating Voice over Internet Protocol scams in Takeo province.

Last week, National Police’s Counter Terrorism and Cross Border Crime Department raided into houses and arrested 232 Chinese nationals living Bati and Tram Kak districts in Takeo province over online scams following an investigation.

At Phnom Penh International Airport, all Chinese scammers escorted by Chinese police were flown back to their country at about 9:30 am today.

Lieutenant General Uk Heisela, chief of investigations at the General Department of Immigration, said that China sent three special planes to take all 232 VoIP scammers to Guangzhou province.

“They are involved in VoIP scams by extorting money via internet and phones in China,” Maj Gen Heisela said.

According to the department, 14,909 foreigners from 93 different countries have been deported from the Kingdom since 2014, including 1,649 Chinese nationals who committed scams and economic crimes.

Most of the Chinese nationals committed extortion and fraud using VoIP.

A department report also showed that there were 373 Chinese nationals who committed extortion and fraud using VoIP, including 66 Chinese women, from the beginning of this year until October 15.
