Former opposition leader Sam Rainsy cancelled leading a rally in New York against Prime Minister Hun Sen who takes part in the United Nations General Assembly.
Mr Rainsy posted on his Twitter that he could not attend the rally in New York because he was occupied with his work somewhere else.
“My apologies are due as I will be unable to attend in New York on Saturday September 29 due to work commitments elsewhere,” he said.
“Many thanks to all those who are able to attend this important rally,” he said.
Mr Rainsy’s cancellation came after he released a statement calling for his supporters in the US to join with him to rally against Mr Hun Sen.
He said that the day of mass rally is changed from Friday to Sunday because most Cambodian-Americans are busy with their works on weekdays.
Mr Rainsy promised with his supporters that after the rally on Sunday the world would not recognize the new government, cut off aid, cancel EBA and investment.
Mr Hun Sen today flew to New York to attend UNGA, and he will also meet his supporters in the US. Many Cambodian-Americans posted video footages, expressed their happiness and welcome Mr Hun Sen’s arrival.
