Svay Rieng provincial police are trying to identify a murder victim whose body was put into a plastic bag and dumped yesterday about 50 meters from a commune police post in Bavet city.

Captain Sok Sarun, deputy chief of the criminal investigation department, said the bag was spotted by a villager at about 6am yesterday along National Road 1 in the city’s Chrak Motesh commune.

He noted that the man opened the bag, found the body inside and informed police at the post.

Cap Sarun said police believe the victim was beaten to death before the body was put into the bag and dumped by the roadside.

He noted that an examination showed that the victim, aged between 30 and 35, was killed at around 2am or 3am yesterday.

“The body had serious injuries on the head, face and mouth,” Cap Sarun said. “The victim was probably badly beaten and tortured by members of a gang before he died.”

He said that police are trying to identify the victim and urged those who have a family member missing to contact them.

Cap Sarun noted that the body is now kept at a pagoda in city.

Provincial police chief Major General King Khuon said yesterday that police are waiting to find out who the victim is before looking for leads.
