King Norodom Sihamoni has decorated Song Tao, head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China, with the Grand Cross of the Royal Order of Cambodia.
Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday presented the Royal Order of Cambodia, the Kingdom’s second-highest civilian award, to Mr Song at the Peace Palace.
Eang Sophalleth, assistant to Mr Hun Sen, told reporters that Mr Song has been outstanding in promoting and improving the bilateral relationship between China and Cambodia.
“This is a sign of appreciation for a Chinese friend,” he said, adding that the award has also been presented to many foreign dignitaries for their efforts in boosting close ties between their countries and Cambodia.
Mr Song’s visit aims to advance the application of agreements signed by China and Cambodia.
He brought a message from China’s president Xi Jinping congratulating Mr Hun Sen and the CPP on their victory at the polls, and pledging China’s support to the ruling party in maintaining peace and further developing the country’s infrastructure and economy.
