Cambodia’s billiards phenom Srong Pheavy returned to the kingdom yesterday evening ready to be honoured for her achievements by the newly inaugurated Snooker Federation of Cambodia.
Having moved to South Korea in 2010 to be with her Korean husband, ‘Cambodia’s Billiards Beauty’ as she has been dubbed by local media outlets, has thrilled fans by winning no less than 20 prizes. Last year, she won her second consecutive Korean national championship trophy.
Speaking earlier this year at a ceremony at the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in the Republic of Korea in Seoul, Mrs. Pheavy explained she always wanted to represent Cambodia, despite the overtures made by Korea whom she said had attempted to lure her for their national team. She will attend the announcement of the establishment of a Snooker Federation of Cambodia on Friday.
The Snooker Federation of Cambodia recently met with the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and was attended by directors of the federation and Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the NOCC.
During the congress last Monday, Mr. Chamroeun said he hoped billiards would help lift the country as they seek to be ready for 2023 when Cambodia hosts the Phnom Penh SEA Games.
