Srey Pov wins again in Burmese Lethwei

A Cambodian female martial artist has brought home another win from Myanmar. Featherweight Srey Pov scored a unanimous decision victory over hometown favourite Shwe Nadi in World Lethwei Championship’s WLC: Knockout War showpiece at Naypyitaw’s Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Srey Pov’s coaching gym Cambodian Top Team, led by Phnom Penh based Chan Reach said: “Srey Pov fought a very tough opponent but still managed to show who is tougher. She got the win via unanimous decision showing her heart and toughness!! Winner winner.”

Pov, 20, had previously defeated Myanmar’s Shwe Sin Min in February at WLC: Bare-Knuckle King and now holds an unbeaten two-bout streak with the Burmese promotion.

Gerald Ng, CEO of WLC, told Khmer Times that foreign fighters were vital to the young fight promotion..

“Nou Srey Pov etched her name in history as the first woman to win inside the WLC ring and this further proves the quality of athletes from Cambodia, said Ng. “We look forward to the continued martial arts partnership to showcase the world class fighters of both countries.”

World Lethwei Championship, a homegrown organisation, held its inaugural event in March 2017. In its mission statement, WLC says it seeks to revolutionise the millenia-old Burmese full-contact martial art of Lethwei with new innovations to showcase it to the world. Since its inception. It has since held three events in Yangon and two in Naypyitaw.
