The National Election Committee on Wednesday officially recognized royalist Funcinpec Party with four other political parties to participate in the upcoming national election in July.
NEC spokesman Dim Sovannarom confirmed that five political parties have been officially recognized by the NEC.
“Today the NEC has officially recognized Funcinpec Party,” Mr Sovannarom said.
The five political parties included Cambodian People’s Party, Cambodian Youth Party, Khmer National United Party, Cambodian Nationality Party and Funcinpec Party.
The NEC is also reviewing documents by other 15 parties, he said.
The NEC on Monday registered 20 political parties to participate in the upcoming national election on July 29 as the 15-day widow to register candidates came to an end.
Prime Minister Hun Sen on Wednesday posted message on his Facebook, urging all the people to go to vote on July 29.
“Thank nieces and nephews for believing in my leadership and continue to vote for Cambodian People’s Party so that I have the chance to lead the country to ensure peace and development forever,” Mr Hun Sen said.
The premier said that percentage of voter turnout in European Union was 30 percent while that of the United States was 40 percent and the election results were accepted.
“For Cambodia, there is 69 percent of voter turnout. This clearly shows that our country’s democracy has improved and it is not like remarks by some uneducated people,” he said.
