The Ministry of Labor announced that, after 420,000 workers were issued legal documents, there are only 10,000 illegal Cambodian workers in Thailand.  Thai officials are confident that they too will be registered by the end of June.

Minister of Labor Ith Samheng is now in Thailand for talks with his Thai counterpart Pol Gen Adul Sangsingkeo.

Thailand’s crackdown on illegal workers led to an exodus last year. The labourers returned to Cambodia and had to get the necessary paperwork before being able to return to their jobs in Thailand.

Minister Ith Samheng said that more than 300 Cambodia officials are working with migrant workers at more than 200 factories in Thailand to provide them with passports and other legal documents.
