A 26-year-old man was charged today with insulting and threatening to kill King Norodom Sihamoni.
Chicken vendor Eang Chulsar of Boeung Kengkang 2 commune, in Phnom Penh’s Chamkarmon district, sparked an angry reaction when he posted the insults and threat on Facebook.
The prosecutor of Phnom Penh Municipal Court said Mr Chulsar faced two charges, insulting the king and making a death threat.
The accused was arrested on Friday and has been sent to prison pending his trial.
Municipal court investigating judge Pich Vicheathor said Mr Chulsar could be jailed for up to five years if convicted.
