A suspected drug addict is in a critical condition after he poured gasoline over himself and set fire to himself in the middle of a road yesterday.

The incident happened at 3 pm on September 5, 2024 at the border of Kdei Tnaot village, Sre Thmei commune, Rolea Bier district and P’er village, Sangkat P’er, Kampong Chhnang city, Kampong Chhnang province.

Police said that before the incident, the man was seen carrying two bottles of gasoline on the road.

He poured the gasoline over himself and then set himself on fire.

Onlookers rushed to douse the flames and the man was rushed to the Referral Hospital in Kampong Chhnang Province immediately.

The victim is currently being treated for severe burns at the provincial hospital.

Police named the man as Nuon Vuthearin, 34.
