Phnom Penh Crown right winger Lim Pisoth won the Cambodian Premier League (CPL) “Player of the Month” award for August on Saturday for his exceptional performance with the team during the early start of the CPL season 2024-2025.
Pisoth has been in good form since the beginning of the new season, scoring two goals and making one assist for his club in the first three league games. He has an opportunity to take his place on the starting line-up, which he could achieve during the previous season.
Eleven players were competing for CPL player of the month in August. The players in the race included: Pisoth, Crown forward Rafael Nieto, Boeung Ket forward Mat Noron, Svay Rieng midfielder Nhean Sosidan, ISI forward Louis Willy, NagaWorld striker Thiha Zaw, the Ministry of Interior Football Association (MIF) forward Mat Sakrovy, Angkor Tiger forward Ky Rina, Visakha forward Ramon Souza, Svay Rieng forward Cristian Roque and NagaWorld goalkeeper Reth Lyheng.
However, Pisoth’s performance was the most memorable in August. Along with the award, he also won a $600 cash prize.
Crown supporters applaud Pisoth for his exceptional on-field composition and his skilful dribbling abilities. He is a challenging opponent, and it is not easy to stop him. A vital player on the right flank, Pisoth regularly creates space for his teammates to play and deliver a precisely placed cross pass to reach them near the goal in the penalty box.
Pisoth was among the 24 players selected for the Cambodian national senior football team as it joins the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier round against Sri Lanka. The team left Cambodia yesterday morning and will play Sri Lanka in the first-leg match in Colombo on Thursday.
Due to the AFC Asian Cup, regular season CPL play has been paused and resumes on September 14.
As of week three, Svay Rieng and Crown are leading the table standing with nine points each. However, Svay Rieng scored more goals overall.
