The second ‘10,000 Riels for children’ campaign of Kantha Bopha Foundation of Cambodia has been more successful than previous years with more than 200,000 people each donating 10,000 Riels ($ 2.5) or more.
According to a campaign member yesterday, the ‘10,000 Riels for children’ campaign has received more than $2 million in the two weeks since its launch on June 1.
The higher amount of donations is contributed to the better dissemination of information about the campaign compared to last year when only $300,000 in donations were received.
Chan Narith, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Head of the Secretariat of Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation, said the campaign is an annual event to support the five branches of Kantha Bopha in the Kingdom.
The campaign was much more successful as more people are familiar with the fundraiser and
the donation process made easier
at banks nationwide.
“On social media, people ‘like’ and ‘share’ the information about the campaign nearly a million times in the days leading up to the launch of the fundraiser, and people who had made a donation attempted to get friends and relatives involved, while media outlets, social media users and influencers also disseminated information about the campaign,” Narith said.
The ‘10,000 Riels for children’ campaign was launched on June 1 and will run until June 30 to raise money for the five Kantha Bopha Hospitals’ healthcare services for children.
“Cambodia Kantha Bopha Foundation is part of the Beat Richner Foundation in Switzerland who support us. However, sometimes the foundation in the Kingdom has to step up and find creative ways to raise funds,” he added.
Prior to the beginning of the campaign this year, the Kantha Bopha Foundation expected to raise about $300,000 to $400,000 which is about the same as the $300,000 raised last year.
Narith said: “The five Kantha Bopha Hospitals need about $120,000 per day for child rescue operations which means the five hospitals need around $40 million a year with support coming from Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation and the Kantha Bopha Foundation of Cambodia and relevant authorities.”
There are 10 days remaining before the campaign comes to a close so people who want to help the hospitals still have time to make a donation to build the spirit of “Khmer Helping Khmer”.
