GAW scholarship fair encourages students

Go Abroad with WEduShare 2018 (GAW), a scholarship and university fair, last week brought together representatives of scholarship alumni associations, foreign universities and embassies, that offered participants a chance to enquire about educational opportunities.

Ly Sampors, one of the organisers of GAW, said some students lack the confidence to apply for scholarships or exchange programmes. The event was organised to encourage them to apply for scholarships and exchange programmes.

“There are many kinds of exchange programmes; students shouldn’t worry. Some students know about programmes but keep this information to themselves and apply without telling their friends about them. So we organised this event aimed to tell them that we have many programmes for studying abroad,” Mr Sampors said.

Students can learn from alumni’s experiences and learn what they need to know before they apply for scholarships or other programmes, Mr Sampors added.

Speaking at the event, Phork Kannika, 18, who participated in an exchange programme last year in Singapore, said she attended the event in order to share her experience of applying for scholarships and exchange programmes.

“Most students are afraid to apply for scholarships or exchange programmes abroad, but their fears are unfounded. I came to tell them they should pursue the things they want to do. Students should try to apply for scholarships or other things, rather than listen to other people who discourage them,” she said.

“On the website, students had many chances and opportunities to apply for short courses, scholarships, workshops, and exchange programmes abroad. They should not worry about passing or failing; when you try, you will gain experiences and learn something new. This is better than avoiding such opportunities,” Ms Kannika added.
