Boeung Ket welcome Lao Toyota to the kingdom this evening for the first leg of their AFC Cup 2018 play-off qualifier.

Lao Toyota were reinstated to the AFC Cup 2018 qualifying round after a lengthy appeal to the Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

They had previously been suspended from the competition for irregularities and match-fixing.

However, while players received various bans, the club itself was eventually cleared of any infraction by the AFC Disciplinary Committee rendering the side eligible to compete as representatives of Laos.

Meanwhile, after winning back-to-back Metfone C-League titles, Boeung Ket were on the hunt for a licenced coach who could lead them in the cup qualifiers and they found their man, who was presented to the media at yesterday’s press conference.

Cambodian Keo Kosal, a former player and long-time coach, has stepped into the fray. He completed his ‘A’ License in late 2011.

Boeung Ket’s title-winning head coach Hao Socheat took over from John McGlynn early in the 2017 season and led his club to C-League glory in a penalty shootout victory over Ministry of National Defense in the 2017 C-League play-off final.

However, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) requires coaches to possess a FIFA/AFC accreditation, while Socheat only holds a ‘B’ licence.

Tonight’s match, which kicks off at 6:30pm, is to be played at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh and will be televised by MYTV. The return leg will be played on Friday in Laos.
