Almost 100 workers at the KKN factory in the special economic zone in Koh Kong province’s Mondul Sima district fainted on Tuesday morning while working.

The Koh Kong provincial Facebook page said the cause of the fainting was a bad smell of oil that spread in the factory and the governor of Koh Kong province has visited the workers who stayed at the factory, while others were sent for treatment at the provincial referral hospital.

Chea Sarin, the chief of police in Mondul Seima district, said authorities had not yet counted the exact number of workers who fainted, but from the information he had it was nearly 100.

“Now we are following up and working with this case. I will inform soon,” he said.

According to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), about 80 workers fainted because of the smell of fuel oil near the factory.

“Now all the victims have been sent to hospital. All transportation and healthcare fees will be the responsibility of the NSSF,” the NSSF said.
