Crash kills driver, injures Korean passengers

One Cambodian man died and seven Korean women were injured in a road accident between a van and a truck on National Road 6 in Kampong Cham province’s Batheay district yesterday.

Deputy district police chief Sok Sol said the accident happened at about 7am yesterday when a van carrying eight Korean women and two Cambodian men, who were driving from Siem Reap province to Phnom Penh, collided with a truck that was stopped on the side of the road.

He added that the seven Korean women were seriously injured, while the Cambodian driver was killed. The other Korean woman and Cambodian man received minor injuries.

“We detained a Cambodian man, who was the reserve driver, for continued questioning and procedures following the legal process,” he said.

“We don’t know the identities of the Korean women or if they are tourists or not. After the accident, we sent them to the hospital for treatment.”

According to the National Police’s department of traffic and public order, during the first 22 days of 2018, there were 219 traffic accidents across the country causing 127 deaths and 299 injuries.
