Meth trafficker caught

A suspected drug trafficker was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly trafficking more than one kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine in Kratie province.

Cheng Sophal, an officer with Kratie’s anti-drug trafficking unit, identified the suspect as Khan Vity, also known as A Chhork, 32, unemployed.

Mr Sophal said undercover officers contacted the suspect several days before the arrest, asking to purchase one and a half kilograms of drugs from him.

After a price was set, officers set up a meeting at a Buddhist temple in Chamgkrong village, Chetr Borey district.

“He was arrested on the spot, because he was carrying the drugs,” Mr Sophal said.

After the arrest, police seized 10 packages of methamphetamine weighing about one kilogram, as well as a handgun and a motorbike.

The suspect was preliminarily accused of drug trafficking and is currently being questioned at the anti-drug police unit. He will be sent to the provincial court today.
