Interior Minister Sar Kheng flew to Laos on Tuesday to join a meeting on security cooperation between both countries and to discuss drug trafficking along the border.
Speaking at Phnom Penh International Airport on Tuesday, a personal assistant of Mr Kheng who asked to remain unnamed said the minister’s official visit to Laos will last until Thursday.
He will also meet with Lao Premier Thongloun Sisoulith and join an annual meeting between Laos’ Ministry of Public Security and Interior Ministry.
He added that provincial governors from Rattanakiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear will also join the meeting with provincial governors from Laos.
“Our officials from the anti-drug unit will meet their Lao counterparts to discuss cooperation on fighting against drug trafficking along the border,” the assistant said, adding that the meeting aimed to enhance cooperation and security on both sides and included issues along the border.
Defence Minister General Tea Banh is also now on an official visit to Laos until tomorrow. He held a meeting with Laos’ Minister of Defence Chansmone Chanyalat on Monday. Both sides vowed to maintain security, stability and avoid military confrontation along the border.
