Police in Preah Sihanouk province arrested more than 10 Chinese men at a rented house in Sihanoukville’s Bey commune on Monday night after a fight broke out during a drinking session.

Kol Phally, the deputy provincial police chief in charge of serious crime, said all the men were Chinese and as the case was minor, they will have to sign an agreement and receive a warning.

“This case only involved minor violence and we stopped it to prevent it from getting larger,” he said. “They had an argument among themselves while they were drinking beer and there were no serious injuries.

“There were more than 10 of them. They are friends. We had them sign a contract, educated them and warned them not to drink beer and fight again. They did not use any kind of weapons,” he added.

Mr Phally said the men were likely to be released on Tuesday after they spent the night in police custody.

“We kept them in police custody overnight. Right now, we are still continuing the procedure of questioning them over a number of other matters,” he added.
