Cyclo foundation to be launched today

Samdech Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, is scheduled  to launch the Cyclo Foundation this morning.

The premier made the announcement during the weekly cabinet plenary session held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh yesterday.

Early this month, Premier Hun Sen revealed his plan to create a Cyclo Foundation to support and conserve cyclos which is a Cambodian identity and a tourist attraction. He planned to donate some 120 million Riel (about US$30,000) for the foundation annually, and to hold a get-together with cyclo drivers.

The Prime Minister also announced to provide Cyclo drivers with the same welfare protection as other informal workers by giving them access to free medical care at the state-run hospitals.

Currently, there is an association of cyclo drivers called Cyclo Conservation and Careers Association.
