The Education Ministry has produced a short video and posted it to its YouTube channel to help teachers educate students in grades one to three.

The video, which runs less than 20 minutes, shows methods of teaching Khmer literature, mathematics and other subjects.

Nath Bunroeun, secretary of state at the ministry, said the video was produced to boost the capacity of teachers and added that more may follow.

“It is good for teachers to watch and take away techniques from it,” he said. “The education department directors, teachers and all relevant officials can go to YouTube to watch or download the video for free.”

Van Puthy, vice director of Chbar Ampov primary school, said yesterday that he supported the ministry’s move to produce instructional videos to aid teachers’ work.

“It is good and helpful for teachers to use this material as teaching references,” he said.

Mr Puthy added that he wanted the ministry to produce another video for students in Grades one to six.

Ouk Chhayavy, acting president of Cambodian Independent Teachers’ Association, said yesterday that the concept is sound, but will likely fail with teachers in rural areas who do not use YouTube.

“It is part of the Education Ministry reforms, but most teachers in provincial or rural areas do not know how to use YouTube and do not use the internet like those in towns or the capital,” she said.
