The Templation Angkor Hotel in Siem Reap held its first fund-raiser to benefit Kantha Bopha Hospital this week. The hospital offers its services for free, so the hotel wanted to help. “I know that the hospital is self-funded, mostly from donations,” said Ayub Yulianto, the hotel’s general manager.

“Most of our female staff who are mothers gave birth at Kantha Bopha Hospital. And when their children are sick, they take them there,” Mr Ayub said. The fund-raiser was organised with the help of the Siem Reap Tourism Club (STC).

Children are the most vulnerable group in society, but they are also the future of Cambodia, he said. To have a good future, we need healthy children, Mr Ayub added.

This is Templation Angkor’s first effort at fund-raising, and the third that the STC has been involved with. But the hotel is looking to do more. “We’d love to get involved whenever possible, either as a co-organiser or as a participant,” Mr Ayub said.

“Before this event, I discussed the possibility of organising a fund-raiser with the people from STC and they agreed to do so,” Mr Ayub added.

Templation Angkor’s initial objective was to raise $7,000 but it exceeded its goal, raising $10,000.

Mr Ayub shared the estimates he had received from the hospital regarding the number of patients it treats. Below are the figures he received, showing daily and monthly estimates.

75 surgeries per day (2,250 per month)

3,000 outpatients (90,000 per month)

400 hospitalisations: (12,000 per month)

600 prenatal care visits: (18,000 per month)

70 births: (2,100 per month)

“Healthy children equals a healthy future equals a healthy country” Mr Ayub said, adding: “When the children sing, let the new world begin!”

The Templation is actively engaged in the community, embracing initiatives in social, collective health and environmental areas. The resort regularly hosts art exhibitions and fund-raising events, the most recent involving Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospital’s 25th anniversary.
