The Royal Palace avowed on Friday, June 8, that King Norodom Sihamoni’s letter (dated May 18 and made public on June 5) is authentic.  The letter encourages the public to cast their votes in the national election.

This contradicts former CNRP leader Sam Rainsy’s Facebook post from June 7 that demonized the letter and claimed that the King either issued it under duress or that it was a fake.

The Royal Palace denied any and all accusations.  It clearly stated that the letter issued by King is genuine and was signed by the sovereign of his own free will.

Prime Minister Hun Sen adamantly vilified Mr. Rainsy for his accusations, saying that Mr. Rainsy’s allegations not only defamed the King, but were an attempt to undermine the King’s wish for a high voter turnout on July, 29.
