The National Election Committee yesterday began operating a call centre for the upcoming national election in July, a first for the NEC and a measure aimed at ensuring voters are fully aware of election logistics.

Dim Sovannarom, spokesman for the NEC, said that residents who want to know information about the election, such as polling locations, can call the centre for information.

“It is the first call centre created by the NEC to give more information to voters,” he said. “It just takes a phone call to find out anything they need to know.”

Mr Sovannarom said voters can call the centre for free from 7am to 11.30am, and 2pm to 5.30pm, at 018-002-018.

Soksovann Vatanasbung, president of the Khmer Rise Party, said that he was pleased to hear of the call centre being launched yesterday.

“I think that it shows good relations between voters and the NEC,” he said.

The NEC has officially recognised 20 political parties to contest the upcoming national election on July 29.

The campaign period will run from July 7 to 27.
