Two men were charged yesterday with stealing 13 buffaloes from farmers in Pursat province.
Sren Ven, 45, and Tim Loh Me, 23, were arrested on Tuesday and face up to three years each in prison if convicted.
Krakor district police officer Chuon Channy said that late on Thursday of last week, the pair stole buffaloes from farmers in Ansar Chambok commune.
They brought them by truck to sell in Pursat and Kampong Chhnang provinces, he said. Early on Tuesday, they stole three more buffaloes from farmers in Ansar Chambok commune.
“They entered to steal the buffaloes from villagers’ houses while the owners were sleeping,” he said. “After stealing the buffaloes, they stocked them on the truck and transported them for sale at slaughterhouses.”
After their arrests, police confiscated the stolen buffaloes and handed them back to the owners.
According to a police report, one buffalo is worth between $500 to $1,000.
