The owner of a massage shop in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district was jailed for five years yesterday for offering illegal prostitution services involving underage girls.
Hong Leap, the owner of the shop named 168, had been charged by Phnom Penh Municipal Court with procuring under aggravating circumstances.
“The court decided to sentence her to five years in prison,” said Presiding Judge Heng Sokna.
Sok Kimhour, an officer with the city’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection unit, said Ms Leap was arrested on November 22 after police from the unit, in collaboration with local police and a municipal court prosecutor, raided her shop.
“She allowed the masseuses to have sex with clients for $20 to $30 at a time,” he said. “She deducted $5 from them for each customer as commission.”
“She was arrested after police raided her massage shop and while two masseuses were having sex with clients in the rooms,” he added.
Police caught three sex workers aged under 15 and gathered evidence such as a notebook of guests’ having sex, along with used and unused condoms from rooms.
The masseuses were sent to a municipal rehabilitation centre for education.
