Casino accountant charged

The accused stole more than $10,000 and lost it gambling in the casino. National Police

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court yesterday charged a 23-year-old Indonesian national over the theft of more than $10,000 from a casino at which he was employed.

Sok Phally, a provincial police officer, identified the accused as William Wijaya, an accountant with the Derrick Casino living in Commune 3.

Mr Phally said that the curt charged the accused yesterday with breach of trust, noting he faces six months to three years in jail if convicted.

Mr Phally added that the accused was arrested by provincial police Sunday evening after a complaint was filed by Lav Han Nung, 43, a representative of the casino.

According to plaintiff’s complaint, between May 21 and June 2, the accused stole a total of $11,947 from the casino for his personal use.

“According to his answers given during his interrogation at the police station, he confessed that he stole the money to gamble in the casino,” he said. “He lost all the money while gambling.”
