PHNOM PENH, (Khmer Times) – The Ministry of Environment (MoE) held a ground breaking ceremony at the site of the ministry’s future offices located along the Bassac River in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Mr. Sao Sopheap, spokesman for the MoE, said, “The construction is expected to take a year and a half and we are moving as fast as possible because the ministry really needs the new building to operate. The budget for the project is around $8 million.”
He added that the new location was provided by Prime Minister Hun Sen to the MoE. The ministry’s old location was rented and the building will be returned to the original owner.
“We are trying to reduce unnecessary spending on the construction in order to lower the total cost of the building,” Mr. Sopeap added.
Construction of the five-story building has been contracted to Daun Penh Construction Co, Ltd.
