PHNOM PENH, (Khmer Times) — Prime Minister Hun Sen reiterated his open door policy for negotiations with Cambodia Nation Rescue Party (CNRP) leaders after a meeting with King Sihamoni at the Royal Palace to discuss the nation’s most recent achievements.

“The CPP continues to open its door for talks with the opposition in order to find a political solution in the spirit of national unity and unification by respecting the principles of democracy and laws,” said Mr. Hun Sen.

He also confirmed his commitment to continue the monarchy as set forth by the Cambodia Constitution.

The CNRP has called for further negotiations in an attempt to settle the 10-month post-election dispute. “Only talks between the two parties will lead to the end of the current political dispute,” said Mr. Sam Rainsy, CNRP president.

“The CNRP wants to find a peaceful solution to the dispute and to ensure that the next elections will be free and fair,” he said.

The 5th mandate elections held in July of last year resulted in the Cambodia People’s Party winning 68 parliamentary seats, while the CNRP won the remaining 55 seats.

The CNRP has disputed the election results as unfair because of fraud, leading them to boycott taking their seats in the National Assembly.
