Cuba Pleas for Release of Prisoners Held in US

PHNOM PENH, (Khmer Times) – The Cuban Embassy called for justice to free prisoners held in the U.S. as spies, but regarded as heroes by Cuba. Three of the five prisoners have been incarcerated since 1998. The ambassador claimed that the situation is part of an ongoing attempt to destabilize the Cuban government.

“Ministers and scholars who joined the trial of the five stressed that it is injustice,” said Mr. José Ramón Rodriguez, ambassador of Cuba.

“The U.S. government’s attempts to undermine Cuba’s sovereignty have not ceased,” said the Commission on International Relations of the National People’s Power Assembly. “Cuba’s inclusion in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism… is intended to justify the continued policy of hostility which chiefly resorts to economic and media warfare.”

The Cuban Embassy thanked Cambodian institutions for their friendship and support during the struggle to end the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the U.S. against Cuba.

“The fight must not cease until all three prisoners of the empire are found with their families in Cuba, and the unjust embargo against this country by the United States of America will be also eliminated,” said the Cuban Embassy.
