PHNOM PENH, (Khmer Times) — The Cornerstone Organization of Cambodia presented a fun charity event with a twist, billed as Zumba for a Cause. The fund-raising affair was held at the CJCC-Angkor-Kizuna Hall and grew from a popular dance workout, designed to burn around 700 calories in each of the participants. The proceeds from the ticket sales will contribute to the construction of a new Literacy Program Center in Rah Village, Kampong Chhnang.
Ms. Olive Pasan, an English teacher from the Beltei School of Phnom Penh and a Zumba enthusiast, said “Zumba is challenging and fun.  I love music and I love to dance.”
According to Gregory Dalde, regular Zumba instructor at the Hotel Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, “One doesn’t have to know how to dance. Just move your body and follow my lead. I love to inspire people. As a Zumba instructor I know how to turn a normal class in to a party.”
The Zumba for a Cause initiative supports one of the missions of The Cornerstone Organization, which is to facilitate community outreach programs into the provinces. Under the guidance of founders and directors Rogil and Janice Apostol, the organization also conducts a food distribution program and teaching activities in Rah Village on the second Sunday of every month.
