Russia-bound youngsters celebrate

Cambodia recently joined over 200 cities of the world in celebrating the International Day of Football and Friendship. The celebration was conducted in Cambodia for the first time, by Football Federation of Cambodia, along with Sengkea Sokheng and Sok Makara, the young ambassadors selected to represent the country at the Gazprom Football for Friendship (F4F) Programme in Russia.

Sokheng and Makara were selected as Cambodian representatives at the global Football for Friendship (F4F) social programme last month. The F4F programme, supported by Gazprom and FIFA aims at developing youth football and a healthy lifestyle as well as promoting tolerance, open-mindedness and respect of different cultures and nationalities between children from across the globe.

This year, the F4F programme has expanded to 211 countries and regions. Cambodia will participate in the programme for the first time.

12-year old Sokheng will join young footballers from around the world in Moscow next month and will be a part of the 32 International Teams of Friendship and play against each other in the Gazprom Football for Friendship International Championship.

The friendly tournament aims to bring together children from around the world and celebrate the unifying spirit of football.

Makara will act as the young journalist and report on all the local and global activities of the F4F programme as part of the International Children’s Press Center. He will also spread awareness on the Nine Values of friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions and honour of the F4F programme.

Sokheng and Makara will also participate in the Sixth Football for Friendship International Children’s Forum in Russia, where the youngsters will get a chance to meet their peers from other countries, share their experiences, and discuss with famous footballers and journalists on how to promote key values of the F4F programme around the world

The sixth season of the F4F programme will conclude with a visit by the participating children to the opening ceremony and the first match of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The International Day of Football and Friendship is celebrated by the participating countries, as a part of the F4F Programme. On this day, the young ambassadors promote the key programme values of friendship, equality, fairness, health, peace, devotion, victory, traditions and honour among their peers.

The International Day of Football and Friendship was marked by the Football Federation of Cambodia through a friendly football match. The young ambassadors were accompanied by the officials of Football Federation of Cambodia, who were there to give their best wishes to the ambassadors for the programme in Russia.

Speaking on the celebration of the International Day of Football and Friendship, Mr May Tola, Acting General Secretary of Football Federation of Cambodia said, “We are delighted to provide our support in the celebration of the International Day of Football and Friendship in Cambodia, as it is our constant endeavor to instill core human values among children. Initiatives such as these, highlights the power of football in breaking barriers, uniting youngsters and creating a positive impact in the local community. We are glad to support our young ambassadors in their efforts to promote these key values, which the Football Federation of Cambodia strongly believes in”

PJSC Gazprom has been organising the International Children’s social programme Football for Friendship since 2013 .
