A 42-year-old woman was decapitated after being struck by a train on Friday in Por Senchey district.
The accident took place at about 4.45pm on the railway located in Kakab commune, where the woman was on the tracks drunk.
Nuon Sophal, a Kakab commune police officer, identified the victim as Hun Navy, a mother of five living in the commune nearby the tracks.
Mr Sophal said that the woman had recently turned to heavy drinking after her seven-year-old son died from drowning earlier this month.
Mr Sophal added that on the day of accident, the victim was very drunk and went for a walk along the railway near her home.
A train bringing passengers from Phnom Penh International Airport toward the city centre then crushed her, killing her instantly, he said.
“It was her own mistake that she was drunk and sat on the railway,” he said. “The train crushed her and cut off her head from her body,”
“The train pushed her body about 100 metres from the initial contact area,” he added.
Mr Sophal said that police are now reminding families by the railway not to sit, walk or play around the tracks.
