The Association of Siamese Architects Exhibition, the largest architecture and building technology forum in Asean, took place on May 3 in Bangkok, Thailand, bringing together the leading building materials manufacturers and developers in the region.
During the event, Khmer Times’ Pav Suy discussed Cambodia’s construction sector with Anuvat Chalermchai, communications director for Thailand-based Siam Cement Group, the largest and oldest construction materials company in Southeast Asia.
Based on the latest available report, SCG Trading Cambodia’s sales revenue amounted to $101 million during the first quarter of the year, an increase of 16 percent over the same period last year. The company owns more than $332 million in assets in the Kingdom.
KT: What are SCG’s mission and goals in the markets where it operates?
Mr Anuvat: Our goal is to raise living standards in any market where we are present. That is why we are constantly working to develop better services, products and construction solutions for our customers with the help of the latest market insight and the most advanced technology available in the sector.
KT: How has your brand performed in the Cambodian market?
Mr Anuvat: We have experienced continuous growth in this market thanks to the many residential and commercial projects in the country as a result of the expansion of the main cities, particularly Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. Not only these major cities are driving our growth; business is also thriving in cities like Takeo, Kampot and Kampong Cham.
KT: What are some of the products you developed for the Cambodian market?
Mr Anuvat: An example of a product designed with Cambodian users in mind is K Cement Super Plastering. We created it to make the process of plastering more convenient and help contractors save costs. It is also the first 40-kilogram cement bag in the market.
KT: Why do customers choose your brand over the many other companies available in the market?
Mr Anuvat: Our motto is “passion for improving”. All our products are designed taking our client’s feedback into consideration, which help us develop products that match their needs. We are constantly striving to innovate to deliver the best possible products to our customers.

Mr Anuvat: Every year, we organise this forum to showcase our products and services and allow clients to experience them first-hand before purchasing. Architects and contractors come to our forum to look at our latest construction solutions and hopefully be inspired.
