The Interior Ministry’s General Department of Immigration on Monday deported 70 Chinese nationals to their home country over cybercrimes and expired visas after a crackdown on them last month.
Keo Sarin, chief of the aggregation department at the General Department of Immigration, confirmed the deportations.
“The deportation was due to the previous arrests that were linked online VoIP scams,” he said.
On April 22, immigration police from the municipal police and General Department of Immigration raided two rental homes in Phnom Penh and arrested 121 Chinese nationals in connection with online gambling and Voice over Internet Protocol scams in Toul Kork district.
Some arrested during the raids were also accused of not having passports or proper visas to be in the country.
