With the kingdom’s domestic league on an extended mid-season break, Metfone C-League clubs Phnom Penh Crown and Visakha kept up their fitness with a Saturday friendly encounter at Crown’s RSN Stadium.
After a quiet first period which saw neither side hit the target, Visakha made a 67th minute breakthrough through Ri Hyok-chol. The North Korean’s finished off a mazy run through a sea of Crown defenders burying the ball into the back of the Crown net.
In the 88th minute and with stoppage time looming, Yeu Muslim, receiving the ball from In Sodavid, scored a fine edge of the box finish on the turn to save the hosts blushes and put a dampener on Visakha celebrations.
The 1-1-final score lays bare the problems six-time league champions Crown face in attack, but also highlights the strength of the C-League newest side. The C-League will resume action on Saturday.
