A further six political parties have applied for the registration of their candidates for the upcoming national election (in July) with the National Election Committee. The NEC registration period will end on Monday, May 14.
The NEC’s statement on Friday, May 11, listed the following six parties as wanting to be on the ballot sheet:
- The royalist Funcinpec Party (Front Uni National pour un Cambodge Indépendant, Neutre, Pacifique et Cooperative)
- Khmer United Party
- Grassroots Democracy Party
- Beehive Social Democratic Party
- New Light Party
- Khmer National United Party
The Cambodian People’s Party, the Cambodian Youth Party and the Cambodian Nationality Party have already officially been recognized for registration, so nine parties are thus far in the race.
Further eight parties are in the process of depositing campaign funds in the National Treasury, while six other parties have received their application forms.
