Two people were killed by lightning and six others were injured in storms across the country over the past two days, while more than 100 houses have been affected, according to a report by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.
It said that a total of 101 homes were destroyed by rainstorms in Kampong Thom, Svay Rieng, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Thom and Pursat provinces.
“Twenty-two houses were affected and two people were injured in Kampong Thom province’s Baray district on Wednesday afternoon, while 49 other houses were destroyed in three districts in Svay Rieng province on the same day,” it read.
The report added that 30 houses were also destroyed in Kandal and Pursat provinces where four people were injured when their house fell on them. Two others were killed by lightning in Pursat province’s Kroko district, it said.
Keo Vy, spokesman for the National Committee for Disaster Management, told Khmer Times today that he had not compiled data on the number of houses affected by storms this May because he was still collecting reports from the provinces.
“I did not complete data collection from the provinces because so many storms have occurred this month, but it is small in number, like between 10 and 20 houses only per province,” he said.
