The Appeal Court on Friday heard the case of a former soldier sentenced to life in prison for slaying prominent political analyst Kem Ley.
Oeuth Ang also known as Chuob Samlab was sentenced to life in prison in March last year after pleading guilty of gunning down Kem Ley on July 10, 2016. He was found guilty of premeditated murder and of carrying or transporting a weapon without authorization.
Lor Kimguech, Mr Ang’s lawyer, told reporters that his client confessed to killing Kem Ley in the hearing.
“I request that the court reduce his sentence because he has confessed since he was arrested by police,” Mr Kimguech said.
Presiding judge Chay Chandaravan said that the verdict will be announced on Friday.
