Thai authorities sent Sam Serey, president of the Khmer National Liberation Front (KNLF) back to Denmark. He was arrested earlier this week for overstaying his visa [Khmer Times reported].

Mr. Serey said that he arrived in Denmark on the morning of April 27 after intervention from Human Rights Watch, the Danish embassy and the UN. “After the invention, Thai authorities decided to send me back to Denmark.” He is a resident of Denmark

On April 26 the Interior Ministry’s spokesman, Khieu Sopheak, said that Cambodian officials were preparing documents to have Mr Serey extradited. The ministry asked Thailand to send him to Cambodia to serve his prison sentence. He was sentenced (in absentia) to nine years for trying to topple the government in 2014.

More recently, Prime Minister Hun Sen, who branded the KNLF a terrorist organisation, accused it of plotting bomb attacks in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap province prior to Khmer New Year.
