Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday charged a 28-year-old staffer of the Pearaing district referral hospital in Prey Veng province with blackmail for threatening to release revenge porn of his ex-girlfriend if she did have sex with him one last time.

Sok Sarith, a Phnom Penh military police officer, identified the accused as Tong Piseth, who faces a two to five years in prison if convicted of blackmailing his former girlfriend.

Mr Sarith said the accused was arrested by military police on Tuesday in Phnom Penh after a lawsuit was filed by his ex-girlfriend, a 25-year-old colleague at the same hospital.

Mr Sarith said that in January the victim was transferred to Pearaing district hospital from the Kampong Cham Provincial Referral Hospital. After her transfer, she began an affair with the accused, which ended earlier this month.

“While working together, they both fell in love and became entangled in a relationship,” said Mr Sarith, adding that the accused, who has a wife and son in Prey Veng province, would often film their sexual intercourse on his smart phone.

Due to fear of her husband finding out, the victim broke off the relationship on April 16 and Mr Pesith became angry, said Mr Sarith, adding that the accused began harassing the victim.

On Sunday, Mr Pesith messaged the victim to meet him for one last sexual encounter at a guesthouse in Phnom Penh on Tuesday. When the victim refused, Mr Pesith became furious.

“If she didn’t show up, the accused said he would release all of her nude photos and sex videos on Facebook,” Mr Sarith said. “To defend herself from the accused, she filed a lawsuit to the military police.”

Mr Sarith said that after receiving the victim’s complaint, military police, in collaboration with the victim, prepared a plot to arrest the suspect.

Mr Sarith said that Mr Pesith was arrested on Tuesday after he travelled from Prey Veng province to meet the victim at the designated guesthouse chosen by the accused in Phnom Penh.
