PM voices support but City Hall Denies

PURSAT, March 28:  (Khmer Times) — Prime Minister Hun Sen  announced that he supports freedom of expression as well as protests.
Speaking at inauguration ceremony for Stung Atai hydropower dam in Pursat, he said it is very important if that freedom of speech doesn’t cause conflict.
“I hear that there will be protest … do as they want, but the protest should respect the law,” he said.
The premier also appealed to the Cambodian people to  avoid conflict because of political tendencies.

Whatever everyone talks about, Cambodia this time has political, and social stability and all state institutions, schools as well as hospitals fulfill their work as usual, Hun Sen added.
However, in Phnom Penh, a day after the Prime Minister’s support, City Hall denied the CNRP’s request for a rally to hold a “People’s Congress, thus again giving the signals that Mr. Hun Sen’s support may fall on deaf ears.
