Phnom Penh has been confirmed as the host of an Olympic Council of Asia Olympic Solidarity/OCA Regional Forum which will take place early next month.
The forum for National Olympic Committees from West Asia and Central Asia will be held at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, next week before travelling to Cambodia for the South Asia, South East Asia and East Asia nations between May 6-7.
Vath Chamroeun, secretary general of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia said the return of the forum to the kingdom was valuable ahead of the capital’s hosting of the 2023 Phnom Penh SEA Games. Cambodia last hosted the regional gathering in Siem Reap in 2013.
Mr. Chamroeun stated that the International Olympic Committee has entrusted Cambodia with similar functions in the past due to its peaceful and stable situation. Ke Kim Yan, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, will also be present at the regional Olympic forum.
At each of the forums, presentations will be made by the IOC’s NOC Relations Department, Indonesia Asian Games Organising Committee (INASGOC), Tokyo 2020 and the Youth Olympic Debaters’ Project.
Another important aspect of the two-day regional forums will be the Pre-Delegation Registration Meetings between INASGOC and the NOCs ahead of the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang this August.
In addition to the meeting, participants are also expected to visit the under-construction Morodok Techo National Sports Complex in northern Phnom Penh to assess the kingdom’s readiness ahead of the 2023 SEA Games.
